Episode 4 - Cities and Places

Welcome to Episode 4 of the Sounds from the Cornerstone podcast! This week's (slightly more on time) theme is cities and places. These songs are about or imply a certain city or place "on this football we call Earth". And so I played:

"Machu Picchu" – The Strokes (Angles)

"J'aime plus Paris" – Thomas Dutronc (Comme un manouche sans guitare)

"Paris" – MSTRKRFT (The Looks)

"Fake Tales of San Francisco" – Arctic Monkeys (Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not)

"Spencer Park" – Matt Stevens (Echo)

"Lillo" – Ministère des Affaires Populaires (Debout la d'dans!)

"Alone in Kyoto" – AIR (Talkie Walkie)

"Rome" – Phoenix (Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix)

"Putnam County" – Tom Waits (Nighthawks at the Diner)

"New Orleans is Sinking" – The Tragically Hip (Up to Here)

"Brooklyn" – Woodkid (Iron EP)

"Los Angeles, I'm Yours" – The Decemberists (Her Majesty the Decemberists)

I know there are many more cities and places to visit through music but I hope this was a nice diverse taste already! And as always, if you liked some, a lot of, or everything you heard in the podcast, go check out those awesome bands and support them!

Episode 3 - Dark Black Night

Welcome to Episode 3 of the Sounds from the Cornerstone podcast! First I'd like to apologize for how late this is, considering I was supposed to do it Saturday and it's not going to come out until Wednesday because I only recorded Tuesday. But moving on, the theme this week was the dark black of night-time. So here are the sombre tracks I played:

"Black Treacle" – Arctic Monkeys (Suck It and See)

"This Dark and Twisty Road" – Abney Park (Lost Horizons)

"Cry of the Black Birds" – Amon Amarth (With Oden On Our Side)

"Back to Black" – Amy Winehouse (Back to Black)

"Dark Lotus" – a'tris (Lensing)

"When the Night Feels My Song" – Bedouin Soundclash (Sounding a Mosaic)

"Darkshines" – Muse (Origin of Symmetry)

"I Will Follow You Into the Dark" – Death Cab for Cutie (Plans)

"The Dark of the Matinée" – Franz Ferdinand (Angles)

"Ended With the Night" – Caravan Palace (Caravan Palace)

"Black Night" – The Dodos (No Color)

"One Minute to Midnight" – Justice ()

I promise we'll cheer up next week with a less depressing theme... Hope you still enjoyed this, and remember: if you liked some, a lot of, or everything you heard in the podcast, go check out those awesome bands and support them!

Episode 2 - Animals

Welcome to Episode 2 of the Sounds from the Cornerstone podcast! For this first themed episode I focused around animals because I had to start somewhere and my list of possible themes is pretty random indeed (as you'll see in future episodes). So, of all the songs I have which pertain to animals, here are the ones I played:

"Horse in the Clouds" – Alex Brubaker (Deconstructing the Temporal Lobe)

"Dangerous Animals" – Arctic Monkeys (Humbug)

"Peacock Tail" – Boards of Canada (The Campfire Headphase)

"Quoth the Raven" – Eluveitie (Everything Remains as It Never Was)

"Plane un aigle" – Grand Dérangement (Grand Dérangement Live)

"Beaver Rag" – Rod Anderson (Sophisticated Rag)

"Animal Rights (feat. Wolfgang Gartner)" – deadmau5 (4x4=12)

"La corrida" – Francis Cabrel (Samedi soir sur la terre)

"Sheep" – Pink Floyd (Animals)

"Stray Cat Strut" – Stray Cats (Stray Cats)

"Chasing Rabbits" – a'tris (a'tris EP)

"Lions" – Dire Straits (Dire Straits)

That's it for the animals this week. Hopefully I won't be behind schedule next week and this will actually be out on Saturday. Oh well. If you liked some, a lot of, or everything you heard in the podcast, go check out those awesome bands and support them!
